#INSTALL
To install NCDXF, load the following files into your PACKCLUS\DB directory:
NCDXF.AOK File provided to prevent user updates of the database
NCDXF.FUL The database itself
NCDXF.LIS Displayed to user if no arguement is used with SH/NCDXF
NCDXF.NF Displayed to user if information is not found
Note: Because of it's small size, NCDXF does not require an index file.
Next, add the following lines to your SYSOP.DAT file:
SET/COMMAND NCDXF NCDXF.LIS NCDXF.FUL * * NCDXF.NF
SET/COMMAND/COMMENT NCDXF Information on the Northern California DX Foundation
And, if you didn't shut down the node to install the database, type in the
above two lines as SYSOP commands.
Other nodes may access the database on your node by adding lines to their
SYSOP.DAT and/or typing in the lines as a command. If the callsign of the
node where the database is installed is KJ9D, then the other nodes would
execute the following commands (in SYSOP.DAT and/or as direct commands):

HISTORY
The Northern California DX Foundation was founded by Vince Chinn, K6KQN,
and a group of DXers in 1972 for the purpose of assisting worthwhile
amateur radio and scientific projects with funding and/or equipment. While
the words, "Northern California" still appear in the title, it should be
emphasized that activities of the Foundation are now international rather
than regional.
All Foundation business and DX support activities are under the direction of
a Board of trustees and advisors, most of whom are holding, or have held,
responsible positions in the business and/or academic world. Everyone in
the governing body and support groups is also an active amateur. All are
ardent DXers with the Honor Roll well represented. The Foundation is
approved by the IRS as a bona fide non-profit organization. There is no
paid staff and no Foundation officer, advisor, or consultant receives
salary or compensation in any form.
&&
FUNDING
At it's inception, NCDXF was fortunate to be the recipient of a substantial
capital donation from Lee Shaklee, W6BH. The capital from this donation is
safely invested and the income (approximately $10,000 per year), plus
contributions from members, provide the funds available to be spent each
year for Foundation-supported DX and scientific activities. With this
conservative protected investment policy the importance of the initial and
follow-up donations by members to long term Foundation activities is
apparent. The Foundation is classified by the IRS as a Private Operating
Foundation as defined in Code Section 4942(1)(3). NCDXF qualifies under
IRS Code 501(c)(3).
&&
DXPEDITION_FUNDING
All DXpedition plans and assistance applications are reviewed by the
Trustees monthly. In planning a DXpedition where Foundation financial
assistance is being solicited, allow at least two months lead time for
action. Instructions for providing the information required for decisions
are available on request. Requests for QSL support can generally be
handled in a relatively short time provided that complete information is
supplied. All requests for financial support should be directed to NCDXF,
P.O. Box 2368, Stanford, CA 94309.
&&
EQUIPMENT_DONATIONS
Equipment donations by members are encouraged but are accepted only on the
basis that the item is in good working condition. Such donations from
U.S. Taxpayer Members are tax deductible at fair market value.
&&
MEMBERSHIP
Everyone is invited to join the NCDXF. As explained previously, donations
by the membership constitute an important part of Foundation income. In
addition to funds expended for direct DX activities and the on-going Beacon
program, postage for general and overseas correspondence and costs of
essential literature represent a substantial expense. Printing and mailing
costs for the NCDXF Newsletter are another major expense item. For the
Foundation to balance income with outlay, a contribution of $25.00 US
(or it's equivalent in IRCs), is suggested for initial membership. A
yearly renewal of $10.00 US will continue to bring the highly informative
NCDXF Newsletter. However, the Foundation does not want to deny membership
to anyone because of financial hardship. Those wishing to become members
who cannot send the full suggested amount should send what they can. All
members receive a handsome 8-1/2 x 11" membership certificate in full color,
a truly fitting adornment for the wall of every ardent DXer.
&&
LOGOS
All members are encouraged to display the NCDXF logo on their QSLs.
Camera-ready logo artwork is available to members without charge.
Requests should be directed to the NCDXF Secretary.

SLIDE_SHOWS
The Foundation has collected and continues to collect, a considerable
number of slide programs which depict many of the most prominent
DXpeditions. Sets of slides have been made available for loan to over
100 radio clubs, conventions, etc., worldwide. Consultant Jo Clarke,
WB6ZUC, has expended a great amount of time and effort in bringing this
program to it's present successful level. Recognition must also be given
to the Blooms, Louese, KA6ING, and Larry, KD6XY, along with Patty Winter,
N6BIS, who have also made valuable contributions to the program.
&&
BEACON_PROGRAM
As a service to it's members and to the amateur community at large, the
Foundation maintains a series of beacon stations which operate sequentially
on 14,100 kHz to provide a valuable check on band conditions. Each of the
listed stations transmits at the time, and in the sequence shown, with
initial transmissions at 100 watts. Power is reduced in 10 db steps to 10,
1, and 0.1 watts with signoff and ID again at 100 watts. The 10 db power
steps are precise and are useful for "S" meter calibration in addition to
their value in judging band conditions. The entire system was designed
and built without engineering or labor cost by Foundation members including
the late Cam Pierce, K6RU, Dr. Dave Leeson, W6QHS and advisor Jack Curtis,
K6KU. Al Lotze, W6RQ, has done a truly outstanding job in coordinating
efforts and in capably handling the large amount or correspondence and
QSLs that the Beacon system prompts.
